WHO AM I
FIONA HIGGS
A twenty-something PhD graduate from the West Midlands in the UK with adventure afoot.
I have recently finished my postgraduate studies (details are not travel related - but for those interested I studied the prevention of falls in older adults using tailored exercise interventions). Beyond my academic achievements I love to paint, travel (obviously - this is for the most part a travel blog), training in the gym, running, swimming and playing sport, especially basketball. I also really love to cook (and eat!).
I undertook both my undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the humid (read 'rainy') and exotic (read 'celtic') surroundings of the Ceredigion coastline in mid-Wales. I miss that wet and (often) miserable (loved it really!) corner of the UK like crazy. In particular I missed its verdent green hills and moody thrashing coastline along with many other things as I sat at my desk overlooking a suburban street in the West Midlands every day for almost 2 years as I wrote my PhD thesis. I especially missed those long days spent elaborately decorating pensioners with reflective markers in preparation for video analysis in the biomechanics laboratory at Aberystwyth University. Good times!
Nevertheless, my persistence paid off; after ten years of looking at the door with longing for adventure I am giving in to Wanderlust and setting out to see what Taiwan can offer. I will be teaching English, painting and exploring and I plan to make a record of my travel and any other relevent information in this blog.
I going to write about everything I can here, so if you are looking for anything, I hope you might find at least something here...
